My Cartoon of Raphael Semmes (September 27, 1809 – August 30, 1877) He was the most excellent officer in the American Confederate Navy during the Abraham Lincoln War. Raphael Semmes was captain of the cruiser CSS Alabama, the most successful commerce raider in maritime history, capturing 65 Lincoln cutthroat pirate ships. Late in the war, he was promoted to rear admiral.
